The Floating Feldmans
Genre: Fiction
This is the story of the Feldman family. Elise, is a shopaholic who has spent most of her family's savings, but her husband Mitch, doesn't know. Mitch, unbeknownst to Elise, wants to make a career change but now he may not be able to do so. Freddy, Elise's brother is a multi-millionaire from his earnings in the legal drug industry, and the black sheep of the family, but his family doesn't know and he doesn't want them to know. Annette, Elise's and Freddy's mother is keeping a secret about their father's health. When Annette decides to take the whole family on a cruise to celebrate her 70th birthday, the family will come together, but all, with their own agendas. Will the truths come out? Will the family be able to remain civil to each other? Will they grow to actually love and accept each other? This funny story is about some of life's most important lessons: acceptance, love and that family trumps everything.
The last book I read was Leon Uris's saga, Exodus. It's a story of a Jewish nation persevering in the light of the most awful events in history, and ultimately working hard, committing to a cause, triumphing, surviving and thriving in their own homeland! And right after, there was this. This story of a shallow, overindulged Jewish American family and their tribulations. At first I thought, "Oy! Where have we come?!" But, after lowering my hunched shoulders and settling into the story, I actually thought it was amusing and entertaining. This is a story about a family trying to connect-again. And maybe, that's enough. So, if you're looking for a silly read with some well-developed characters and an uplifting story-line, this might be just right for you.
