Anxious People

Genre: Fiction

This is the story of eight strangers, two police officers, their family, a psychologist, a bridge and a crime that never happened. These eight strangers have come together to view an apartment that is for sale, with a spectacular view of a bridge. Each of these characters is there for very different reasons. A narrator will tell you all about the characters and their reasons for being at the apartment, about the crime that never happened and about how they all will eventually become connected for life. This is a sweet, funny and moving story about human connection.

What an amazing story this is and my description doesn't do it justice! Yet again, Backman gives us his insight into humanity through the story of several characters, and how they connect to each other. Here too, there is that omniscient narrator who leads us through the story in a way that you think you know exactly where it's going, and then it turns a corner and something else is revealed, which changes the whole trajectory of the story. I loved Backman's other books so much and with this one too, he doesn't fail to deliver a story of love, humanity and connection. If you've lost your faith in people, this story will restore it, and if you've held on to your beliefs of goodness, this will reaffirm those beliefs even more. There is so much good in our world, we just have to look for it. I highly recommend this book!
