Apples Never Fall

Genre: Fiction

This is the story of Joy Delaney, 69 years old, recently retired, mother to four kids and wife to Stan Delaney, a few years her senior. Joy and Stan used to own a tennis school and coached and taught many kids over the years. But their kids, Amy, Logan, Troy and Brooke, those kids were schooled in tennis and in life's many lessons. Sure, Joy wants grandchildren and she's not sure she'll ever have any; sure, Amy is painfully insecure, Logan hasn't grown up, Troy is so focused on earning money, and Brooke is anxiously high achieving. Stan and Joy's marriage is strong and secure- most of the time. Theirs is a happy family, for sure. One night, a stranger named Savannah enters the family home and Joy and Stan welcome her with open arms and accept her as one of their own. But what are Savannah's intentions? Is she honest about her story? And then, Joy disappears. She sent her kids a strange text and no one has seen or heard from her in days. Told alternately from present to the past, this story is about the power of family, and the bonds that hold us together-those which ensure that even in the hard times, we are there for each other.

I cannot even explain how much I needed this book. I've been reading kidlit for a long time now and just couldn't get into adult books. This one was so fun and delicious, I couldn't get enough. It's all the usual that you can expect from Moriarty; murder, family drama, human behaviors at their best and their worst, and just a fun story. You will not be disappointed with this one.
